NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has declared that “AGI has arrived” following the release of OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra, adding another major voice to the debate over whether artificial general intelligence is finally here.
OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on September 3, describing it as its most intelligent and aligned model so far. The company says Astra sets new performance records across computer use, browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, science, mathematics, and professional work.
Jensen Huang says GPT-6 Astra marks the arrival of AGI
Huang congratulated OpenAI on the launch and described AGI as the “holy grail of AI.” Astra was trained using NVIDIA hardware, with more than 100,000 Grace Blackwell NVLink72 systems reportedly involved in its development.

The performance numbers help explain the excitement. OpenAI reports that GPT-6 Astra scored 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3, 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4, and 100% on ExploitBench. It can also handle complex computer tasks such as browsing websites, filling forms, analyzing scientific data, creating websites, and working with professional software.
Astra has also reached OpenAI’s “Critical” cybersecurity capability threshold. According to the company, the model can find previously unknown security vulnerabilities and develop exploits against well-protected systems when given the necessary tools and access. OpenAI has introduced additional safeguards because of these capabilities.
Has OpenAI actually achieved AGI?
Huang’s declaration does not settle the question. AGI still lacks a universally accepted technical definition, and some AI researchers have challenged claims that Astra has crossed that threshold.
OpenAI itself describes GPT-6 Astra as a new generation of intelligence and is rolling it out across ChatGPT paid plans, its API, Microsoft Azure, and AWS Bedrock. Whether the industry ultimately calls Astra AGI will depend on how its capabilities hold up outside controlled benchmarks and demonstrations.
