What could be the next generation of Apple’s AirPods have apparently received certification from the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). While Apple hasn’t announced a new generation of AirPods, two filings for AirPods were published on Thursday by the Bluetooth SIG. They are listed under the design names and design model numbers A2032 and A2031, and certification by the SIG is a requirement for all Bluetooth devices coming to market.
The documents indicate these devices could include health monitoring capabilities, and that they support Bluetooth 5.0, according to MySmartPrice.com.
More Upgrades to AirPods
According to other regulatory filings from Hong Kong and Europe also revealed this week, the new Air Pods could be distributed as a “General wellness instrument.” This covers items such as health and fitness sensors as well as biometric devices. Furthermore, it backs up what we saw in patents in March 2017 which referred to “Earbuds with biometric sensing.”
It is also expected that the Air Pods 2 will offer better communication via the new W-Series Wireless chip, ambient noise handling, and “Hey Siri” support in the hardware. They might even come with the wireless charging case Apple pre-announced in the fall of 2017..
And then there’s that one crazy report that the next AirPods will charge your iPhone. However, the size of the AirPods’ battery means this is highly unlikely.
