Apple? today announced that QuickTime 5, Appleis industry-leading software for creating, playing and streaming high-quality audio and video over the Internet, has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times during its first week of availability. QuickTime 5 is available as a free download to Mac and Windows users at www.apple.com/quicktime.
“QuickTime 5is quality, speed and UI enhancements are already a hit with Mac and Windows users,” said Philip Schiller, Appleis vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “QuickTime 5 builds on the success of QuickTime 4, of which 150 million copies have been distributed worldwide.”
QuickTime 5 includes an enhanced user-interface with new audio controls, “Hot Picks” guide and QuickTime TV (QTV) channels display; a new DV codec for enhanced speed and quality; the ability for content creators to design custom interfaces for the delivery of their QuickTime content; and a component downloader to add Appleis own enhancements as well as third-party plug-ins on the fly. QuickTime 5 also offers full support for MPEG-1, Flash 4 and QuickTimeis new Cubic VR technology.
