Micahel Fassbender, from a 2012 GQ Spread
Seth Rogan (The Interview, and we'll leave it at that) is playing Steve Wozniak. Danny Boyle is directing, and the film is now officially named Steve Jobs.
Seemingly on the fasttrack to get made in the first year or two after Steve Jobs died in 2011, this movie has had a troubled path to get even this far. Sony Pictures bought the film rights for the book and hired Aaron Sorkin to adapt it. The film will reportedly be based around three Steve Jobs launch events (Mac, NeXT Cube, iPhone), with flashbacks to various points in Mr. Jobs's life.
Leonardo DiCaprio was the first star attached to the film, but he ended up backing out. Christian Bale—who would have made an intense Steve Jobs—then came on board until he also backed out. Sony ended up selling the project to Universal Pictures, and that brings us up to speed.
It will be interesting to see what kind of “Steve Jobs” Michael Fassbender makes. Hopefully it will be the kind of performance that brings the tech icon to life. Seth Rogan could end up being an excellent choice for the role of Mr. Wozniak, too.
Universal said the film is expected to be released in 2016.
