Spotify spent close to $340 million on its recent purchase of Gimlet and Anchor, it emerged Friday. The majority of those transactions were in cash.
Paying for its Podcast Play
The numbers were in an SEC filing, highlighted by Re/Code’s media man Pete Kafka.
It is thought that $200 million of that total was for Gimlet (via Re/Code). That would leave $140 million for Anchor. Gimlet investors Stripes Group, WPP, Betaworks, and Lowercase Capital had previously put a total of $28.5 million into the company. Anchor raised $14.4 million from investors including Accel. Homebrew, and Betaworks.
In a blog post announcing the deals on February 6th, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said that “said while podcasting is still a relatively small business today, I see incredible growth potential for the space and for Spotify in particular.”
