Starbucks issued Wednesday evening an updated version of its iPhone app featuring full Passbook support and integration. The company, which has long maintained its own Passbook-like mobile payment app, now allows customers to create a Pass from existing, registered cards to pay for beverages, food items and more.
Integrating with the company's rewards program, purchases made using Passbook count towards drink totals tallied by the standalone app.
Additionally, when creating a Pass from an existing Starbucks account, users can specify favorite stores to better alert Passbook to open when in a nearby vicinity. When a user approaches a any Starbucks location, Passbook senses the close proximity and displays a notification on the lock screen.
Given the popularity of the coffee purveyor's existing app, Passbook compatibility seems like a natural fit, and a sure to be popular addiction—erm, addition. The Starbucks app is available as a free download on the App Store.
