When Apple released macOS Sierra 10.12.1 and iOS 10.1 on Monday it also slipped tvOS 10.0.1 out, too. The update is available for the fourth generation Apple TV, and offers security and bug fixes, but doesn’t give us iOS 10’s promised single sign-on feature.
Single sign-on is a feature that authenticates for all of the content services you use on Apple TV instead of requiring a unique login for each. Apple hyped the feature when tvOS 10 was first shown off, but it hasn’t been activated yet. Presumably the feature will show up some time this year, but Apple is running out of time since it’s already late October.
Despite the lack of single sign-on support, the 10.0.1 update is still worthwhile because of its bug and security fixes.
Apple TV automatically checks for system updates weekly, but if you want to install tvOS 10.0.1 right away go to Settings > System > Software Updates > Update Software on your Apple TV. The update process takes a few minutes, and then you’ll be back to watching shows and listening to music.
tvOS 10.0.1 broke the Netflix app for me. Each time, about one to two seconds after launching it, it crashes.
