Jeff, I agree with you hat the iPad is a real computer. John is right that a Mac can certainly do more, but for the vast majority of what I do, I can do on my iPad. Recently my iMac truly bit the dust, and it took me several weeks to replace it. In the meantime, I was able to write newsletter articles, blog away, create a journal article, maintain a database of technical papers, apprise others of updates to that database and respond to authors, as well as keep up with emails, news, and industry happenings – all on my iPad. As John said, I woudn’t even think of coding on the iPad, and there are certain Excel files I can’t use as they require VBA which of course isn’t included in the iPad version of Office. For that I needed to wait for my iMac replacement. I use my iPad for presentations (you’ve both seen that in action), and due to the unavailability of my iMac, my last presentation was even created on the iPad – not as easy as on the Mac but doable. With iOS 11, the iPad has made a Great Leap Forward in useability (sorry Mao, no peasants were harmed in writing this sentence). For the vast majority of what I do, my iPad is a credible stand-in for a full fledged computer like an iMac or MacBook Pro.
