Wow! do you guys disappoint me! I don’t want you to be apple fanboys but I don’t want you to be short sited idiots ether.
Yes $250 is less than $300 but that doesn’t make something that is expected to be used for multiple years more expensive. If chrome books and iPads are purchased every year for every student then iPads are too expensive. But if they are purchased for multiple years, which do you think will be in use longer?
An iPad air or an iPad mini 2 purchased in 2013 can run iOS 11 today. This is not last years iPad. It is a current state of the art A10 iPad that will probably be receiving updates in 2023. Do you really think the same can be said for the $250 chrome book? A $200 chrome book that lasts 2 years is more expensive than a $350 iPad that lasts for 4. It is just simple math.
Now, it has been a great number of years sense I was in elementary school or middle school but my daughter recently finished one and is currently attending the other and keyboards have no place in the school but pencil and paper do. I have to imagine you are imposing your own needs on students that don’t really share them. I’m not saying that my daughter has not used a computer and keyboard to create things for classes, but far less often than she would benefit from a good consumption device or a good drawing, note taking and annotation tool.
I think you are drinking the Old Mad cool-aid and missing the bigger picture.
Oh ya! That 2-3 year old chrome book has a resale value of -10 (pay to get it recycled) and that 5 year old iPad air still sells for $250 on woot.com today. Real cost is a funny thing!
