Great discussion. My wife, who is a tax lawyer cum contracts lawyer, who in her early career, worked on tax policy for the Oversight Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee, listened with me to your podcast, and made the observation that the ineffectiveness of Congress in dealing with tech writ large is less about lobbyists lining their pockets than it is ignorance about how tech works. Rather, they should, as they have done with tax policy, hire tech savvy staff and explain to them what they want and have those staff coach them on how to make that happen. Secondly, they should form a joint committee (servicing both the House and the Senate) staffed by tech lawyers spanning the gamut of expertise from social media to integrated platforms to privacy and security to third party app development to streaming services etc etc to assist them in addressing these issues so that they can do so knowledgeably and effectively. Congress clearly do not understand how much of this tech works, and are applying outdated models in trying to address issues such as unfair market practices and monopolies etc in these industries.

Her two cents, not mine.
