The mystery surrounding when the new 27-inch iMac will ship is gone thanks to an update at Apple's sales website. The ultra-thin model will ship in January, but the 21.5-inch model is available now -- assuming you don't mind waiting about 10 days for delivery.
27-inch iMac: Coming in January
Apple isn't saying when in January the big screen iMac will ship, so it may very well be the end of the month before customers finally get their hands on the new model.
The new iMac models don't include an optical drive so that their bodies can be thinner. The 27-inch models start at US$1,799 for a 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, or $1,999 for a a 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5. Both models include 8GB of RAM and a 1TB drive, and both have the Fusion Drive option, as well.
Previously, Apple listed the 27-inch model as shipping in three to four weeks.
