Apple sent out invitations to the press on Tuesday to a media event on October 22nd, confirming a leak to AllThingsD a week ago. The invitations are titled "We still have a lot to cover," and the smart money says Apple will unveil new iPads and release the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks. The company could unveil new MacBook Pro models, as well.
The event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10:00 AM PDT.
Invitation Sent to Several Media Outlets
In the time honored game of deciphering Apple's media invites, the name of this event—"We still have a lot to cover"—strongly indicates Apple will use the event to unveil several new products. As noted above, new iPads are all but a given, and it would make sense for Apple to release Mavericks and announce the shipping specs for the new Mac Pro that was officially announced at June's World Wide Developer Conference.
In addition, Apple's MacBook Pro with Retina Display line hasn't yet been updated with Intel's new Haswell processors, and new rumors have sprouted that Apple will unveil them at next week's event, too. This passes the sniff test for me, and it would serve to make more of this event about new products than focusing just on new iPads and the Mac Pro we already know.
French site MacG claimed (Google Translate) earlier on Tuesday that Apple will ship the Mac Pro in the middle of November, while new iPads and the MacBook Pro updates will ship in October.
