Apple has sold over 1 billion iOS devices since the original iPhone was introduced over seven years ago. News of the sales figures came from Apple CEO Tim Cook during the company's first fiscal quarter earnings report on Tuesday.
iOS device sales top the 1 billion mark
Mr. Cook said the billionth device sold was a 64GB Space Gray iPhone 6 Plus. Total devices sold includes iPhones, iPads, and the iPod touch.
"Apple's mission is to make the greatestproducts on earth and enrich the lives of others," Mr. Cook said. "We've provided hundreds of millions of people with powerful personal technology."
Apple sold 74.5 million iPhones during its first fiscal quarter for 2015 with US$74.6 billion in revenue. Earnings for the quarter hit $18 billion. Analysts came in under Apple's actual iPhone sales with a 69 million unit estimate.
