Apple announced a big milestone during its 2016 first fiscal quarter earnings report on Tuesday: a billion iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Apple TVs are currently in use. That's actively used devices, not simply devices sold, and represents more than 25 percent growth year over year.

CFO Luca Maestri said there's more potential in its services business than many people realize. He said, "World class skills in hardware, software, and services put Apple in a position of strength." The services Mr. Maestri is referring to include the App Store, iTunes Store, iCloud, and Apple Music.
"All of this provides us with an unparalled foundation for the future of Apple's business," he said.
Apple reported US$75.9 billion in revenue and $18.4 billion in earnings, making this the most successful quarter in the company's history. Mr. Cook echoed the notion that Apple's service business is a serious part of the company's fiscal success saying, "The growth of our Services business accelerated during the quarter to produce record results."
The company sold 74.8 million iPhones, 16.12 million iPads, and 5.3 million Macs during the quarter. The company doesn't break out Apple Watch sales, but did say it currently has over 10 million Apple Music subscribers.
